The Passion of a Hillbilly Greaser is the working title for an evening length dance-theater performance based on the multifaceted metaphor of Elvis Presley. The piece explores the juxtaposition between kitsch and violence, the tension created between the pursuit of Christian values and the physical release of pop music, and the poignancy of Presley's mournful loneliness. The excerpted section of The Passion of a Hillbilly Greaser performed at the Chen Dance Center on November 20-22 is an exploration of the relationship between the Hillbilly Greaser and his Karaoke-singing Japanese sidekick/spiritual guide.
